Flea Tick and Heart Worm Prevention

There is now a wide array of medications available for treating and controlling external parasites, such as fleas, ticks, and ear mites. Most treatments need to be given or applied just once monthly. These products include but are not limited to:

• Vectra 3D (dogs only)
• Frontline Plus (dogs and cats)
• Revolution (dogs and cats)
• Preventic Tick Collar (dogs only, and only for ticks)

The recent introduction of the product Trifexis (dogs only) makes control of Heartworm, Intestinal Parasites (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms) and Fleas as simple as giving one tablet a month.

Revolution is a very effective product that we recommend for cats as it eliminates fleas, ear mites, roundworms and hookworms.

The prevalence of heartworms is often dependent on geographical location. It used to be more widespread in our area until most dog owners incorporated heartworm prevention as part of their pet’s well care and maintenance. Preventing heartworm infection is as easy as giving your dog one pill a month! The additional benefit of heartworm preventative medication (Heartgard Plus, Interceptor, Trifexis) is that these medications also eliminate and control some of the most common intestinal parasites.
